Lia 8
Carved into the slope of Serifos, this residence is born from excavation, not addition. A horizontal concrete slab anchors the house to the earth, aligning with the horizon and deflecting the northern winds. It draws inspiration from the island’s geology, mining heritage, and elemental landscape.
Made of exposed concrete, timber, weathered steel, and water, the house follows the contours of the terrain. From the sea, it is almost invisible; deep openings, courtyards, and reflecting pools bring light, rhythm, and air, while minimal glazing blurs the line between interior and landscape.
More than a retreat, it is a meditative platform, a vessel for light, shadow, and solitude. Materials were chosen for honesty and durability, allowing the house to merge with the land: monolithic yet open, silent yet alive.
